Counseling 120, College and Career Success - Syllabus

This empowering course blends practical strategies with personal development tools to help students succeed in college, career, and life. You’ll learn how to build academic confidence, manage stress, and make meaningful progress toward your goals. Topics include:

  • Self-assessment of values, interests, strengths, and personality

  • Time management, study strategies, and learning styles

  • Educational planning and career exploration

  • Budgeting and financial wellness

  • Motivation, memory techniques, and goal setting

  • DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy)–informed skills to support emotional wellness, including:

    • Mindfulness for focus and stress relief

    • Distress tolerance and emotion regulation

    • Interpersonal effectiveness for better communication and boundaries
