Economics for Transfer

Economists study the production and distribution of resources, goods, and services by collecting and analyzing data, researching trends, and evaluating economic issues.

The quality of education you obtain through economics courses at Cuyamaca College will set you on a firm foundation to explore a number of related fields, including business and real estate. In fact, economics courses at Cuyamaca College are required for those seeking an associate in science degree in business.

Courses

Courses offered at Cuyamaca College include Economic Issues and Policies, Principles of Macroeconomics, and Principles of Microeconomics.

Cuyamaca College is the only community college in the state that serves as a Center for Economic Education for the California Council on Economic Education.

The median pay for an economist in 2012 was $91,860, according to the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics, but it is important to note that most economists have earned a master’s degree or a Ph.D. Employment of economists is projected to grow 14 percent from 2012 to 2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Job prospects should be best for those with a master’s degree or Ph.D., strong analytical skills, and related work experience.
