ZTC Planning Grant (formerly called Phase 1) and ZTC Implementation Grant (formerly called Phase 3)

  • The CCCCO has $115 million to allocate for ZTC to campus and districts from now until last encumbrance by June 2026.
  • The ZTC program has 3 parts:
    • ZTC Planning Grant: Each campus was apportioned $20,000 in funding during AY 2022-23 for planning of ZTC. Funds were used to support faculty in completing OER Basics course.
    • ZTC Implementation Grant: College granted $180,000 to fund at least one program (degree or certificate) to ensure all courses in their program are ZTC.
    • ZTC Acceleration Grants: College will submit a single application, with multiple program (degree or certificate) entries that ensure all courses in a program's path are ZTC.

Past Funding Opportunities

Michelson Spark Grants

  • Time Frame: Opens June 3 and Closes June 23, 2021

The 2021 Michelson Spark Grants Open Educational Resources (OER) funding cycle will be open from June 2 to June 23, 2021.

Michelson 20MM is looking to fund projects in California that support systems-level strategies with the potential to create positive impact at scale and inform public policy.

On May 26, 2021 at 10:00AM PST, the Michelson Foundation will hosting an informational webinar to discuss the Spark Grants program and funding priorities. Register to attend the Zoom webinar.

The Michelson Foundation is interested in supporting initiatives that address the following:

  • Incorporating open educational resources into the tenure and promotion process within higher education systems;
  • Raising awareness to policymakers and higher education leaders around the issue of automatic textbook billing with a focus on how these programs impact students and faculty;
  • Utilizing open educational resources to provide an actively antiracist and more culturally responsive learning environment for students;
  • Research that demonstrates how open educational resources and zero textbook cost degree programs impact student success within California;
  • Providing opportunities for faculty statewide to engage in professional development around open educational resources with a particular focus on sharing resources that have already been developed and breaking down silos in the space;
  • Improving efforts around data collection in California to understand the current metrics around OER adoption by higher education faculty;

The Michelson Foundation will be awarding grants up to $25,000 to non-profits and educational institutions.

Please note The Michelson Foundation will not be funding initiatives that primarily seek to develop OER content during this cycle. While they realize there is a tremendous desire from faculty for this type of support, they are leveraging their funding to effect broader systemic change.

ASCCC OERI Request for Proposals - 3rd Round

The ASCCC OERI is pleased to announce that proposals are now being accepted for the next round of OER funding. To ensure that applicants have all the information they need before submitting their proposals, we held informational webinars that have been archived and have scheduled informal office hours (see below). Please note that we do anticipate funding projects subsequent to this round of proposals.

The anticipated timeline for the process, from the publication of the RFP to the announcement of selected projects for funding, is as follows:

  • Monday, March 22, 2021 – Submission portal opened
  • Monday, April 19, 2021, 5 pm – Submission portal closed
  • Week of April 26 – Proposals reviewed
  • On or before Monday, May 10, awards announced

The OERI will be funding up to twenty-four proposals of up to $30,000 each. Typically, a $30,000 proposal would involve the development of a new OER text or an extensive revision of an existing one. To justify this level of funding for a revision, the applicant should demonstrate that they have conducted a review of available OER and provide a detailed overview of the modifications to be made. In other words, the maximum funding should not be sought unless it is clearly indicated that a comprehensive analysis of the most current revision of the resource has been conducted and this level of funding is required. Proposals for the development of ancillaries must provide specific details regarding the final OER and connect the specific resources developed to estimated time for development. In addition, the proposal should acknowledge any existing resources that will be integrated into the work. Ancillary resources that include components that rely on other websites must also provide alternative options should those websites be inaccessible or no longer available.
