The Child Development Careers Program is a collaboration of organizations with a common goal and vision to offer the opportunity of a life long career path as an early childhood educator. Through an integrated training program of classes and work experience participants are prepared to become an Associate Teacher or a Teacher through the California Child Development permit process.

Participants receive the highest quality preparation, training and education. Individuals who participate in the Child Development Careers Program and become part of this important career path will play a key role in improving the quality of care and education provided to young children during their most critical and formative years.

Eligibility
  • CalWORKs/TANF recipient
  • Desire to work in the field of Early Care and Education
  • Ability to pass fingerprint and background clearance
  • US citizen or permanent resident
  • TB test clearance
  • Depending on Community College, FAFSA may be required

General Child Care Resources

  • California Child Care Resource and Referral Network
    Provides information on current activities of the agency that began the movement for better compensation for child care workers. Look for information about the Worthy Wage Campaign and the National Mentoring Alliance.
  • Children's Literature Web Guide
    This site provides links to such resources as children's books online, children's book awards, and movies based on children's books. The site also has lists of resources for teachers, parents, and storytellers.
  • Disaster Resources
    Prepares teachers and other child-care youth workers for working with children who have been through a disaster.
  • Early Childhood Education on Line
    A resource exchange area for early childhood education ideas. Offers information on observation and assessment, curriculum and environment, and professional development.
  • Parents Action for Children
    Provides information about early childhood development and resources for parents and care-givers. Includes information on the first three years of a child's life, brain research, parent questions, lists of books and advice from experts.

Child Advocacy Resources

  • Early Childhood.com
    The focus is on improving the education and general life experiences of young children. Get advice from experts in the early childhood field, expand your collection of creative projects, and share ideas and questions with the early childhood community.
  • Zero to Three
    Fosters a network of people around the country who are concerned about the needs of infants, toddlers, and families. Functions as an Early Head Start National Resource Center. Develops and conducts training for the birth-to-3 programs that are part of Head Start. Describes issues, programs and resources. Includes a contact list.
