Equity Funding for Professional Development

The Cuyamaca College Student Equity Plan will fund professional development activities that promote matriculation, student success, retention, persistence and completion on campus. The Professional Development Committee has funding to support equity-related travel; however, our process and criteria have changed slightly from the 14-15 academic year.  In order to ensure we are directly supporting professional development for the college's identified "big bets" (accelerated basic skills, clear student pathways, and student engagement/validation), we have identified several conference that are pre-approved for funding.  Please see below for the list of pre-approved conferences.

Please note that because of guidelines established by the CA State Chancellor's Office only in-state conferences and workshops are generally allowable. Out of state travel may be considered, but it needs to be directly related to the Equity Plan and must receive written approval from the CA State Chancellor's Office.

Directions for Submittal

If you are interested in attending one of these pre-approved conferences, please complete an Off-Campus Activity Form and send to Kerry Kilber Rebman’s office, C-142. Please note that due to availability of funding, we may need to limit the number of attendees for each conference.

When evaluating equity travel requests, the Professional Development Committee Co-Chairs will be considering the following criteria:

  • How directly the travel supports one or more of the “big bets.”
  • If there is a balanced representation of attendees from both student services and instruction.
  • The reasonableness of the cost of attendance and available budget.
  • The ability of the requestor to disseminate gained knowledge with the college community.

Please note that approval from the Professional Development Committee does not indicate approval to travel.  Once the PDC notifies you of approval for travel, your off-campus request will be routed back through your dean’s office for approval. As normal, you may not book travel until you have received official approval to travel from the Business Office.

Upon completion of the activity, please complete the Equity Report form and email it to the Professional Development Committee Co-Chairs at: Cuyamaca.ProfDev@gcccd.edu  Please include your chair/supervisor, dean/manager and your dean’s administrative assistant on the email.

Equity Summit

On August 12, 2015, Cuyamaca College hosted an Equity Summit, which was attended by people from across the campus. The presenter, Dr. Bridget Herrin, discussed equity from an institutional responsibility perspective. After presenting college equity data, Dr. Herrin facilitated an interactive workshop, in which participants discussed what the college can do to better serve historically underrepresented students.
