NextUp Program Overview
NextUp is designed to sup
port the educational goals and holistic well-being of current and former foster youth.
The goal is to provide ‘above and beyond and addition to’ supportive services to help
former foster youth overcome the extra obstacles that may be holding them back from
the pursuit of higher education through the completion of a certificate, degree or
transfer.
CAFYES was authorized by Chapter 771, Statute of 2014.
NextUp Services
As a NextUp student, you will receive all the EOPS services plus you may be eligible for these additional supports:
- Priority Registration
- Textbook assistance (as funds are available)
- NextUp Grants (as funds are available)
- Technology Loan (laptops and hotspots while supplies last)
- Academic, vocational, and career counseling
- Referrals for free tutoring
- Life Skills Workshops
- CommUNITY building events
- Housing Referral
- Personal Counseling Referral
- EOPS/CalWORKs Satellite Food Pantry
Eligibility
To qualify for the NextUp Program, you must:
- Be a current or former foster youth whose dependency was established or continued by the court on or after the youth's 13th birthday
- Be no older than 26 years of age at the commencement of the academic year in which the student participates
- Be enrolled in at .5 or 1 unit
- Complete a FAFSA
- Submit a copy of your Dependency Letter
To Apply
To apply for the NextUp Program, you must:
- Complete the EOPS application EOPS Application
- Provide a copy of your dependency letter/verification of foster youth status
- Complete the EOPS and NextUp Orientation

NextUp Orientation
All students admitted to the NextUp program are required to attend an orientation. Check with the office for orientation dates.
